Kroger: 40 percent off coupon circulating on Facebook is bogus

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- File this one under "too good to be true."

A coupon offering 40 percent off your next shopping trip to Kroger has been circulating on Facebook. The post is being shared on the walls of Facebook users and features an authentic looking coupon that expires on Dec. 31.

Don't be fooled. Tim McGurk, the public affairs manager for Kroger's Louisville stores, confirms that it is fake.

"The 40% coupon that began circulating on Facebook early Thursday morning is not a valid offer," McGurk said in an emailed statement. "The Kroger Company did not originate and is not affiliated with this offer. Kroger’s Social Media team is posting messages to let our customers know that the offer is not valid. We are working with the appropriate authorities to have the offer investigated and removed as soon as possible.”
