LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – After only one year as the Wildcats offensive coordinator, Shannon Dawson is leaving the University of Kentucky.
The school told WDRB Sports on Thursday there were no football staff changes to confirm, but Dawson told FOX Sports that he and head coach Mark Stoops had philosophical differences on how to manage the offense which is leading to his departure.
In Dawson’s single season at UK, the team saw some statistical increases (including a red zone touchdown percentage of 56 percent this season compared to 51 percent last year) but overall, the total scoring offense dropped from 2014.
Dawson came to Kentucky with a strong pedigree, including three years as West Virginia’s offensive coordinator, where the Mountaineers were 12th in the nation in total offense during his final season there.
Stoops is now searching for his third offensive coordinator in three years.
