LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) –VJ King gave Louisville fans a look into their future Sunday.
And that future looks pretty good.
Playing in front of future coach Rick Pitino, his coaching staff, and most of his future teammates on the Louisville Cardinals, the five star wing scored 35 points in the King of the Bluegrass Overtime game Sunday at Fairdale high school. King’s Paul VI Panthers beat the North Bullitt Eagles 101-53.
“It’s awesome,” said King after the game. “It makes me excited to come next year.”
If King was nervous about all the attention, he did not show it. King scored 19 of his 35 points in the first half on 7-12 shooting. At times it didn’t even look like he broke a sweat.
“It wasn’t tough at all. I had a support system here.”
That he did. King’s future Cardinal teammates made sure King felt right at home after the game, surrounding him with hugs and high fives.
“It’s the best,” King said. “Better than anything. I can’t explain it.”
At 6-6, King showed he do just about anything on the court Sunday. When asked how he sees himself fitting in next year, King said he’s open to anything.
“Whatever coach wants me to do. I just want to come in and contribute. “
