POLICE: Jeffersonville teen charged in fatal hit-and-run called law enforcement friend after crash

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jeffersonville teenager charged in a fatal hit-and-run is due back in court Wednesday.

Junior Lee Montgomery, age 64, was hit Saturday night on Spring Street, not far from Hamburg Pike in Jeffersonville.

Police say the 18-year-old suspect, Brandon Bailey, called a family friend after the accident. That friend, who is in law enforcement, reached out to local police, who arrested Bailey.

"I think it speaks for his character that he did reach out and attempt to -- after-the-fact -- to report," said Sgt. Isaac Parker of the Jeffersonville Police. "However, it is required by law that he did stop at the scene, and he did leave the scene of that accident."

Bailey's attorney says the teen panicked after the accident. Right now, he's charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

Toxicology results are pending.
