Family of seventh grader helped by Idaho lunch lady speaks out after her firing

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A lunch lady in Idaho was fired for giving a young girl a free meal. Now, that girl's family is defending the woman.

The seventh grader's family believes there was money in her account, but the school still denied her lunch. The 13-year-old says the lunch lady gave her food after her account was denied. The family says they had no idea that the woman was later fired.

"I don't understand how they can look at a hungry child and tell them, 'You can't eat today,'" said one family member. "I didn't know she would do that. I didn't think that she would ever. Knowing that made me just so much more thankful for her."

The girl says she had no intention of getting the lunch lady in trouble.
