Families have tearful Christmas reunions at Louisville International Airport

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's perhaps one of the best places to be today: watching families greet each other at the airport.

Some families had tearful reunions as they welcomed their loved ones home. Families say all the travel is worth it to see the smiles waiting for them.
Air traffic started slowing down today, most people say they had no trouble getting home for the holidays.

"We were very fortunate," Kate Dailinger, who was traveling for the holidays. "We got here without any hitch. And we're very excited to be here to spend Christmas with our family."

An expected 100 million Americans are traveling for the holidays this year. Triple A says the record number is likely because of milder weather and the lowest gas prices in a year.

According to Gas Buddy, the average price for a gallon of gas in Louisville comes in at $1.91.
