LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- St. Matthews Police arrested three people authorities say stole almost $1,000 in items from area Kroger stores.

Terrie Wiley, 54, Anna Smith, 48, and a third person were arrested Wednesday at the Kroger store, located at 291 North Hubbards Lane, according to official police records.

Police say stolen merchandise totaling $980.56 was found inside Smith's car.

Officials say Smith and Wiley admitted some of the stolen merchandise found inside the car had been taken from another Kroger store earlier that day. The pair say they stole the items to sell them in order to purchase drugs and pay bills, according to police.

The website for Louisville Metro Corrections says both Wiley and Smith are charged with complicity to theft.
