Pittsboro man charged with interfering with horse rescue

Posted: Updated:

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (AP) -- A central Indiana man faces charges after police say he interfered with efforts to rescue more than a dozen horses from flood waters.

Indiana Conservation Police say 56-year-old Charles Knights Jr. of Pittsboro is charged with resisting law enforcement and criminal trespass among other charges in connection with the Brownsburg incident.

Police say Knights saw police trying to rescue the horses on television and arrived at the scene and entered the water. Authorities say Knights started swimming toward rescuers and calling to the horses.

Police say Knights was arrested when he was out of the water and taken to the Hendricks County Jail.

Authorities say all horses were removed from the flood waters and no injuries were reported.

It wasn't immediately clear if Knights had an attorney who could comment.
