LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Whooping cough cases are up this year in Jefferson County.

There's an outbreak in northern Kentucky.

Locally, health officials say there have been 14 cases in the last three months.

There are 34 cases total this year -- up nine from last year.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, whooping cough starts with cold-like symptoms and can cause serious illness in babies.

Health officials recommend keeping your children on schedule with vaccines. Adults who are around small children should get a booster shot.
