LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — University of Louisville junior linebacker Trevon Young, who left Wednesday’s Music City Bowl on a cart after suffering a hip injury in the first quarter of the Cardinals 27-21 win over Texas A&M, underwent hip surgery Thursday in Nashville.

A release from the school said that Young suffered a fractured and dislocated hip, and that Dr. Philip Kregor of the Skyline Medical Center in Shelbyville, Tenn., performed the procedure.

Young will remain in Nashville for the next couple of nights.

A native of Des Moines, Iowa, who originally committed to Iowa, Young was a standout for the Cardinals this season, collecting 8 1/2 sacks — all over the final six games of the season — which led the team, and was good for No. 18 nationally and No. 4 in the ACC, heading into the Music City Bowl. (Devonte Fields passed him with three sacks in the bowl game).

Young won ACC defensive player of the week honors after a three-sack performance in a win over Boston College. He had 32 overall tackles.
