LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some people are wasting no time hitting the gym in the new year.

People were working out early this morning at the YMCA in downtown Louisville.

Getting in shape and losing weight are some of the most popular resolutions people make for the new year. This is the busiest time of the year for the YMCA.

"Everybody has some ideas on what they can do to improve their quality of life," said Erik Mann, the YMCA Healthy Living Director. "If they can just start with small steps and make sure they're realistic, come in and have fun, and before you know it, it will become a habit."

"I would personally like to lose at least 15 more pounds," said Kristen Hawthorne, who was exercising at the gym. "I've lost 104 so far, so I'm just trying to polish it off, so I think training for this competition will help me to have a goal to work after."

Hawthorne says she set her goal three weeks ago. Along with her husband, she decided to get in shape and do a powerlifting competition. 

Right now, the YMCA is waiving the join fee for new members.
