Organizers say Yoga Mala at Muhammad Ali Center highlights diversity of Louisville exercise scene

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Many people in Louisville started the new year off by stretching their muscles Saturday morning.

The Muhammad Ali Center hosted a Yoga Mala, featuring 14 local yoga instructors.

Participants did 108 sun salutations, which are several poses in a continuous sequence.

The goal is to bring together different yoga communities.

"A lot of people don't know that Louisville is rich in a diverse group of studios and disciplines of yoga," said Mimi Hahn, who organized the event. "And for us to have the opportunity to get together and do something together and very rare ... it's also very powerful."

Besides providing exercise, the event also raised money for the Ali Center and the Africa Yoga Project, which empowers diverse tribes and communities.
