Parents of missing Bardstown mother file motion to prevent grandchild from leaving the state

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There's a new development in the case of missing Bardstown mother of five.

Crystal Rogers' parents have filed a motion to keep their grandchild from leaving the state.

Thomas and Sherry Ballard already take care of four of Crystal Roger's children. However, their three-year-old grandson Eli is still in the custody of his father, Brooks Houck.

The Nelson County Sheriff's Office has named Houck as the only suspect in the Bardstown mother's disappearance, but he's never been charged.

The Ballards say they believe Houck is preparing to flee the state with their grandchild, because he's selling off his real estate investments.

"With Brooks putting rental property up for sale, that's very disturbing to us," said Rogers' mother, Sherry Ballard. "He's putting it under market value. Why would you want to get rid of all your rental property when that's your living?"

The Ballards say another issue is that Houck's sister-- who the court was told was babysitting Eli-- has moved out of state.

Houck's attorney says he has not yet spoken with his client about the motion so he cannot comment.

The motion will be brought before the Nelson County Circuit Court as early as Wednesday morning.
