Indiana license plates to be replaced every seven years instead of every five years

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana license plates are getting an extended life cycle.

The state Bureau of Motor Vehicles says license plates will be redesigned and replaced every seven years instead of every five years.

The new rule went into effect on Friday.

Officials say the move cuts down on the amount of metal needed for plates.

The change is expected to save Indiana about $10 million a year.
