Louisville Metro Animal Services wants to know who is shooting several dogs

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Animal Services needs help finding who's responsible for shooting and injuring several dogs.

Officials say a pit bull was shot in the 40210 zip code last Tuesday. The animal is getting treatment, but may lose a leg.

The agency has no leads in similar shootings from September and October. In one of those cases, a dog died.

"We really need the public's help," said Leslie Hawk of Louisville Metro Animal Services. "This is not just an animal safety issue. It could become a public safety issue. If someone is out there shooting guns at animals, it could very easily miss and strike a human."

LMAS suggests watching your dogs closely, and not leaving them outside.

If you have information on the shootings, you're asked to call LMAS.
