KONZ | Teacher salaries, per student spending - how does JCPS compare with other districts?

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- How does Jefferson County Public Schools compare to other school districts in Kentucky when it comes to enrollment, teacher and principal salaries, teacher turnover, student test scores and spending per pupil?

For my first column of the  year, I thought I would try to answer some of the top questions I am asked throughout the year. 

These figures are based on the 2014-15 school year (unless noted) and were compiled by JCPS data management.

Total Student Enrollment:

  • JCPS: 96,094 (49 percent minority; 65 poverty)
  • Bullitt County: 12,874 (5 percent minority; 49 percent poverty)
  • Boone County: 19,891 (13 percent minority; 38 percent poverty)
  • Daviess County: 11,015 (10 percent minority; 51 percent poverty)
  • Fayette County: 39,185 (41 percent minority; 54 percent poverty)
  • Hardin County: 13,921 (25 percent minority; 55 percent poverty)
  • Kenton County: 14,054 (8 percent minority; 41 percent poverty)
  • Madison County: 11,402 (10 percent minority; 51 percent poverty)
  • Oldham County: 12,008 (10 percent minority; 10 percent poverty)
  • Shelby County: 6,752 (27 percent minority; 52 percent poverty)
  • Warren County: 14,293 (23 percent minority; 57 percent poverty)
