LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some might call pouring out Pappy Van Winkle a crime and a petition is begging Governor Matt Bevin to save some sought after bourbon.

An online petition called "Pardon My Pappy" has nearly 300 signatures. Its supporters want the governor to use executive action to stop the destruction of 28 bottles.

The bourbon went missing in late 2013 in part of a massive theft ring.

Officials once suggested auctioning off the bottles and donating the money to charity.

The grandson of Julian "Pappy" Van Winkle, Senior wants them destroyed as he is fearful they may have been contaminated.

A judge will eventually decide the whiskey's fate.
