LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The band director at Marion County High School has been arrested after being accused of inappropriate activity with a female student.

Curtis Bennett, 33, was arrested at the school Wednesday afternoon. He is facing charges of video voyeurism and unlawful transaction with a minor.

The Marion County sheriff says an investigation found evidence of "inappropriate activity" with the student, and that more charges are expected.

Court documents reveal the alleged crime happened on "12/26/15" and that images were taken "without that person's consent".

"We were not aware that this was going on," said Taylora Schlosser, the superintendent of Marion County Public Schools. "It's horrible for our families and our children. I don't want our families to think that we're not on top of things."

Kathy Schuck says her granddaughter always described Bennett as a "really nice guy".

"That was one of her favorite teachers," Schuck said. "It's unbelievable that something like that would happen up here. But in a small town, you never know."

According to Bennett's Facebook page, he has been the band director since 2011. He also teaches music and he works with the school's chorus and theatre programs.

Superintendent Schlosser says Bennett's job status remains unclear. She says the school district will conduct its own investigation.

"We want to make sure that our students feel safe and we want to make sure that this doesn't happen in the future," said Schlosser.

Bennett was released Thursday morning on bond. He is due in court on January 11th.
