LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Shively man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of a 2-year-old boy.

Police say LaJuan Hayes was watching Alonzo Thomas Jr. in March of 2014 while his girlfriend was at work. EMS responded to a report of a seizure, but police found the child had multiple burns and injuries to his head and body from being beaten.

"Numerous second, possibly third degree burns throughout the torso of the child, multiple areas of the body with blunt force trauma -- head, torso and extremities as well," according to Shively Police Sgt. Myers.

The 2-year-old was rushed to Kosair Children's Hospital and died in surgery.

A judge sentenced Hayes to 18 years in prison.
