Liberty Street ramp to reopen this weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A ramp in Downtown Louisville will be reopening to traffic as crews with Walsh Construction continue to make progress on the Downtown Crossing portion of the Ohio River Bridges Project.

The ramp from Liberty Street to I-65 North is expected to open this weekend. It’s scheduled to open by 5 a.m. on Sunday, January 10.

The ramp has been closed since February 2015. The ramp initially closed to help alleviate traffic congestion on downtown streets. During the closure, the ramp has been rebuilt to provide new connections to the newly opened Abraham Lincoln Bridge.

With the opening of the new Liberty Street ramp, drivers will gain access to another through lane of traffic. The right lane of I-65 North, just south of Muhammad Ali Boulevard, will carry traffic to I-65 North, I-64 and I-71. The right lane is currently a mandatory exit lane to Muhammad Ali Boulevard.

During the closure, drivers used Muhammad Ali Boulevard to access I-65 North. The Muhammad Ali ramp is expected to close in mid-February, to build a new ramp to connect to the Lincoln Bridge. The closure is expected to last about three months.
