North Vernon man texts stolen phone with a special message for the thief

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A stolen phone had a bold message from its owner Friday in North Vernon, Ind.

Police say Christopher Lawrence, 31, stole the phone from a car in a Walgreen's parking lot in North Vernon, Ind.

The owner of the phone then texted it, saying, "thanks for stealing my phone! Hope ya get caught!"

Officers arrested Lawrence Friday afternoon after a chase, and it was all caught on camera.

During that chase, a man says Lawrence pulled a knife on him and forced him to drive.

Police say Lawrence then left the car and took off in the woods before he was caught.

Officers recovered the phone stolen in the theft, as well as many other items.

Lawrence faces several charges including theft, resisting law enforcement and possession of stolen property.
