LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeffersonville Pride is officially now up and running.

The organization held its kickoff event Saturday.

Founder Evan Stoner invited gay rights activists and representatives who spoke about the importance of equal rights in southern Indiana.

He says his goal is to inspire the community to make a change.

Earlier this week, Stoner addressed the Jeffersonville City Council, asking members to pass an ordinance protecting LGBT individuals.

"We're going to people, we're telling them our mission, we're sharing our vision and we're trying to say 'look, get behind us, support us, and we will makes changes in Jeffersonville and all of southern Indiana,'" he said.

Stoner says he's eager to see what Indiana Gov. Mike Pence says about LGBT equality issues on Tuesday, during his state of the state address.
