ISP say death investigation underway after body found on Highway 56 in Washington County

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana State Police say a male body was found on State Road 56 near Quaker Lane in Washington County.

Authorities say the body was located Sunday sometime between 3 and 3:30 a.m.

ISP says Mitchell Lovins, 70, of Scottsburg, was the victim. The preliminary cause of death was ruled as massive trauma to the body.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday at the Washington County Hospital in Salem.

Officials say Lovin's minivan slid off the road on State Road 56. Lovins left his vehicle and was walking down the road when he was hit by another car.

Investigators continue to look for the vehicle that hit and killed Lovins.
