METROSAFE: HAZMAT situation declared after report of several sickened at Louisville business

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Several departments responded to a HAZMAT situation at a Cane Run Road business Monday morning, according to Metrosafe dispatchers.

The location is 8001 Cane Run Road, which is listed as Louisville Processing and Cold Storage. According to dispatchers, shortly after 9 a.m., someone called to report that several people were becoming ill, and may have been exposed to anhydrous ammonia.

Dispatchers say multiple departments -- including the PRP and Lake Dreamland Fire departments -- responded and one person was transported to the hospital. Others, who said they felt sickened but refused to be transported by ambulance, drove themselves to the hospital to be checked out.

The Jefferson County Metro HAZMAT Team determined that there was an ammonia leak inside the mechanical room. The leak was stopped and the building was ventilated.

There is no threat to the public, according to dispatchers.
