LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a deadly accident, according to Indiana State Police. 

Police say Derek Deaton, of Salem, hit 70-year-old Mitchell Lovins and drove away – leaving Lovins on State Road 56 near Quaker Lane in Washington County.

Officials said Lovins’ body was located Sunday sometime between 3 and 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Police said his minivan slid off the road nearby. When he started walking down the road, he was hit by a car.

According to Indiana State Police, Deaton was questioned in connection with the event and subsequently arrested.

He was taken to the Washington County jail.
