Family of 4 killed in northeast Ohio house explosion

Posted: Updated:

NORTHFIELD, Ohio (AP) - A family of four has died after a house explosion that shook a northeast Ohio neighborhood.

The Northfield Center Township fire chief on Tuesday said that the bodies of a couple and their two daughters, ages 8 and 12, were found on the first floor of the home. The explosion was reported around 8:30 p.m. Monday. The Summit County medical examiner hasn't released the names of the victims.

Fire Chief Frank Risko says the house was fully engulfed in flames minutes after the explosion was reported. Risko says investigators from the Ohio Fire Marshal's office were examining the wreckage on Tuesday morning to determine what caused the explosion and fire.

Northfield Center Township is about 20 miles south of downtown Cleveland.
