RADCLIFF, Ky. (WDRB) – On Tuesday night at North Hardin High School, the legacy of fallen Kentucky State Police trooper Cameron Ponder was carried on.

At halftime of the boy’s basketball game Telmate Inc, a company specializing in jail and prison communications, presented a check to Ponder’s family in the amount of $2,500.

Ponder, 31, a native of Rineyville, was shot and killed following a traffic stop Sept. 13 in southwestern Kentucky. He was a Navy veteran who had been on the state police force less than a year.

“It means the world to us,” said Joe Ponder, Cameron Ponder. “ Its keeping the memory of Cameron alive.”

Ponder’s father said the outpouring of support from Hardin County has not surprised him.

“God shined a light in our eyes when he gave us Cameron and now God is shining a light in this community and Hes blessed Cameron by shining a light on him,” Joe Ponder said.

The money will be put into the Joseph Cameron Ponder Memorial Fund which the family will use for scholarships for Hardin County High Schools students looking to further their learning experience.

The message from Cameron Ponder’s family at halftime Tuesday was a motto of their loved and lost trooper.

“Never give up,” Joe Ponder said. “Cameron preached more so in the way he lived but that's what he inspired people to do is never give up.”
