After-school program at Ali Center aims to help kids find superpowers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- JCPS hopes a new after-school program will help close the achievement gap.

It's called "Discover Your Superhero."

Students from Whitney Young Elementary in West Louisville will spend their afternoons at the Ali Center for 16 weeks.

They'll participate in interactive activities that will help them discover their inner superpower to make the world a better place.

Students and their families will also have free membership to the Ali Center for the year.

"I think the setting makes it unique, coming to the Ali Center," JCPS Superintendent Donna Hargens said, "50 students from Young Elementary get to come and they get opportunities that the wouldn't have. It's sort of a second shift of freshness and ideas that students get to benefit from."

This is the first week of the program.

Students are provided with free transportation to and from the Ali Center.
