LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Speedway is undergoing a major face lift as the entire track surface is being replaced.

The track posted a picture on Twitter Thursday -- giving fans an update on construction.

The Speedway announced the renovation earlier this month. Crews are currently repaving the track, adding a new barrier and making the drainage better.

Track management says that'll make it safer for drivers.

The 2016 season begins in July, anchored by the July 9 Sprint Cup Series Quaker State 400. The Camping World Truck Series starts the triple-header weekend with a 225-mile event Thursday, July 7, and the XFINITY Series 300-mile event is Friday, July 8.
