Distracted driver admits to reading behind the wheel

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A police officer in Minnesota pulled over a man he said was reading a book while driving.

The officer said he notice the driver swerving all over the road while heading down an interstate, so he pulled him over and asked what he was doing.

That's when the officer said the driver admitted to reading. Apparently, the James Patterson book he had was just too good to put down.

The driver's love of reading will cost him a fine.

"It's very dangerous. But he kind of got it, and knew that he made a mistake. The officer ended up giving him a citation," said Aaron Machtemes, a spokesperson for the Eagan Police Department.

Machtemes said that distracted driving is getting worse because of people using their smartphones while behind the wheel.
