LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The family of a Louisville father of two stabbed to death Wednesday night says they have no idea why anyone would murder their loved one.

Montez Small, 24, was found dead inside his apartment on West Kentucky Street, where relatives say he lived alone.

“In my heart, I feel like it’s a crime of passion,” said Priscilla Fykes, Small’s mother. “He didn’t deserve it. He just didn’t deserve to go out like that.”

Fykes says she last spoke to her son on Jan. 18, two days before his body was found.

“We don’t know how long he had been dead. I don’t have answers,” Fykes said.

“Somebody knows what happened. We just want answers. We want to know,” said Naya Barnes, Small’s sister.

Known to loved ones as Monnie, Small’s family says he was disabled and born legally blind in one eye. He loved cooking and dreamed of going to culinary school to become a chef.

“It hurts so bad that somebody would just do him like that. He was just a kindhearted person. He didn’t bring no harm to nobody,” said Fykes.

The family has started a GoFundMe page to help raise money for his burial.

Relatives are also trying to piece together a timeline to figure out the last hours of Small’s life.

“Could you please just call and say where you seen him? What time it was? What did he have on? Any information that could help us, please tell us,” Barnes said.

LMPD is investigating three other murders from that same night. No arrests have been made in any of those cases.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Louisville Police Anonymous Tip line at (502) 574-LMPD.
