UPDATE: 2 arrested after officers find kidnapping victim in trunk of vehicle
Police say the victim told them, "I'm really glad to see you guys," when officers arrived on the scene.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It was still dark Monday morning when a man in his twenties was kidnapped, bound and thrown into the trunk of his own car, police say.
It wouldn't be until 12 hours later that police would find the man tied up, a hostage in the trunk of his own car.
"Over several hours, there was surveillance, some intelligence was gathered and an investigation was conducted regarding this kidnapping for ransom,” said Sgt. Emily McKinley, LMPD Homicide.
Sgt. McKinley says police started getting information Monday afternoon because the suspects were demanding a ransom from the victim's family in exchange for his safe return.
It's unknown if any ransom money was ever exchanged.
There are still a lot of holes in the timeline but police believe the victim was in the trunk for several hours before he was found.
"He said ‘I'm really glad to see you guys,’" McKinley told reporters.
LMPD's Homicide and 9th Mobile Units were able to gather enough information to lead them to the victim.
They arrested Steffon Garcia, 21, and charged him with kidnapping.
“Without their skill and investigative work, this young man could have lost his life last night,” said McKinley.
Police say the kidnappers were wearing masks and, for now, it's unclear whether the victim and his abductors know each other.
"Obviously this was a very traumatic event for him so we're working on getting all these details out,” she said.
The victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Garcia is in jail on a $50,000 bond.
Update: Another suspect was arrested Tuesday night. Police say Jasamane Wathel was taken into custody. Wathal was arrested during a traffic stop around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. She's been charged with kidnapping an adult.
