LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Republican Rand Paul has some competition for his U.S. Senate seat.

On Tuesday, Lexington Mayor Jim Gray filed for the Democratic nomination just ahead of the deadline.

Gray made history in 2010 when he was elected as Kentucky's first openly gay mayor.

Since then, he's wrangled the city's pension funds and raised the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.

Gray's campaign comes as Republicans hold all but one of the state's federal offices and four of six statewide offices.
