Proposed Indiana income tax tied to plan to raise cigarette and gas taxes

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An income tax cut has been tied to a proposal to boost gas and cigarette taxes in Indiana.

The proposal would add about four cents to the gas tax and $1 per-pack to the cigarette tax.

The plan would increase road funding.

The proposal would also gradually lower the state income tax about 15 hundredths of a percent by 2024.

Democrats opposed the proposal, say it would force more reliance on a less-stable sales tax revenue.
