LA GRANGE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police are investigating a fatal accident involving a pedestrian in La Grange.

It happened just before 3 p.m. this afternoon at the corner of First Street and Jefferson Street.

Police tell us 61-year-old Jann E. Hall of La Grange was killed when she was hit by a tree trimming truck. She was walking near a crosswalk when she was struck.

The truck involved was with Swartz Mowing out of Olympia Kentucky, which is east of Lexington.

La Grange residents say the downtown area is always busy with drivers and pedestrians. Carrie Britt said most people are alert because that four-way stop has flashing lights.

"I don't know if they could put anything to caution people to be more aware in general if they're not from the area," Britt said.

Chief Frank Conway with the La Grange Police Department said there have been two pedestrians hit at the same intersection in the past. But neither person had serious injuries.

"This intersection is no more dangerous than any other intersection. This is an unfortunate incident. There's going to be a lot of people affected by this and I don't know that there is an answer to the problem," Chief Conway said.

Early on in the investigation Chief Conway did not say if speed or the sun was a factor. But he said his department along with the Oldham County Sheriff's Office is working to reconstruct the scene to find out what what wrong.

"With their computers and lasers and all the technology available to us these days, hopefully in the next few days we'll know more about what happened here," Chief Conway said.
