2016 count of homeless in Louisville higher than last year's

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One-hundred and twelve people have been found sleeping outdoors in Louisville.

More than 280 volunteers divided into teams to search known homeless locations for the 2016 Homeless Street Count.

This year's count is up from last year's total of 71.

Officials say the rise is partly because of milder weather, meaning more people were sleeping outside instead of in a shelter. There were also more volunteers, so they were able to cover more areas.
