LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) – One week removed from the first big snowfall of the winter, the Louisville Cardinals baseball team hit the practice fields at Jim Patterson Stadium with visions of a great spring heading their way.
Yes folks, it’s January and baseball season is just around the corner.
The Cards open up the season as the number 2 team in the land, a program preseason ranking record. Junior Zack Burdi says the team isn’t feeling any added pressure but they also know other teams will be looking to take them down.
“We’re all ready for it, we’re all prepared,” said Burdi. “We’re just ready to get out there and play ball."
After practice today, the team had some fun at the Marriott downtown for the annual Lead-Off Dinner. This year’s featured guest was Toronto Slugger Jose Bautista. The six-time all-star shared some words of wisdom with the Cardinals.
“(I told them) a little bit about my path and my perspective on things,” said Bautista. “I think there’s a bunch of good kids in that group.”
Louisville opens up the season February 19th at Jim Patterson Stadium against SIU Edwardsville.
