Anti-violence event to honor 8-year-old boy shot and killed in west Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An anti-violence celebration will honor the 8-year-old boy shot and killed earlier this month.

The event, called "Put Down the Guns. We Want our City Back," will focus on gun safety and celebrate youth achievement.

It's all in honor of Andre Lamont O'Neal, who was killed at a babysitter's home on Jan. 9.

A family friend of the boy, who also works as a youth coordinator, says guns, drugs and home issues all need to be adressed.

"I think it's very important that we pay attention to these things and start saving our youth one at a time," Sharonda Moore said. "It's very vital to us because they are our future."

The event will take place Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Chestnut St. YMCA.
