Indiana's HIV outbreak spikes

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There has been a spike in southern Indiana's HIV outbreak.

Four more people have tested positive, bringing the total number to 188 people diagnosed. Nearly all are in Scott County. Officials say the new cases are people who had contact with patients previously identified in the outbreak.

Progress has been made to slow the spread of HIV, but officials believe more people will likely be diagnosed.

The outbreak has been largely driven by needle-sharing.
