Louisville's Professional Development League soccer team releases schedule

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville's semi-professional soccer team, the Derby City Rovers, have released their season schedule for 2016.

The Rovers compete in the USL's Premier Development League, which is geared toward college and amateur player development. Several former University of Louisville players, along with players from other regional colleges and universities have spent time with the side as a way to keep fit in the off-season and gear up for making the jump to professional soccer.

However, the PDL offers the opportunity for players to play on a side without getting paid so they can maintain their amateur status. The league is made up of 67 teams spread across 10 divisions. New England Revolution defender and number one draft pick Andrew Farrell played with the Derby City Rovers in the PDL before graduating from the University of Louisville.

The Rovers play their games at the Woehrle Athletic Complex in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
