LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A southern Indiana teen accused of killing a younger boy will not be charged as an adult.

Police say a 14-year-old was shot and killed Jan. 20 by a 16-year-old in a subdivision off State Road 62 near Charlestown.

Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel won't say what led up to the shooting, but says he believes the two teens knew each other.

"It kind of maybe falls in the realm of it wasn't necessarily accidental but there was no intent to take a life - it's just that reckless act caused a life to be taken," Sheriff Noel said in a news conference Jan. 20.

The 14-year-old was pronounced dead on scene Jan. 20 in the Rolling Hills Subdivision. Officials said when they arrived just after 11:30 a.m., they found the 14-year-old dead.

Prosecutors tell WDRB that the 16-year-old is the only suspect in the case and will be tried as a juvenile.
