ISP: Social media message leads to confrontation, officer shooting suspect

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A social media message to an Indiana officer lead to a bizarre chain of events that ended in gunfire Tuesday.

Officers say a man asked an officer to meet him at League Stadium in Huntingburg, Indiana.

The officer requested assistance to go meet the person because he was "concerned by the nature of the message and [knew] that the Department had been to recent calls for service with this person."

Once there, Indiana State Police say it appeared the man was holding a weapon.

When he refused to drop it, two officers shot him several times.

Police are not releasing the message. Officials said the man was in critical condition after the shooting.
