Initiative designed to teach thousands in Ky. hands-only CPR

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Less than five minutes of your time could save someone's life.

It's a push to teach 35,000 people in Kentucky hands-only CPR.

You don't need to do mouth to mouth to save someone's life when they go into cardiac arrest.

The American Heart Association is putting on training events, including one at Jewish Hospital to teach people the hands-only technique.

Officials say too many people stand by and do nothing when someone's heart stops.

Lindsay Lewis, a spokesperson with Jewish Hospital, said, "It's so important because if no one does hands-only CPR, you're going to die. Your mortality every minute you go without CPR goes up 10 percent."

There will be several more training sessions as part of American Heart Month, including one at U of L on Friday.
