U of L fans react to Cardinals' self-imposed postseason ban

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) – Louisville Cardinal fans are standing behind their team as they slowly realize there will be no postseason.

It's a fate that no Louisville basketball fan ever imagined

“It is what it is, but I do feel bad for the players,” said one fan after the Cardinals' victory over Boston College on Saturday.

The self-imposed ban means no ACC or NCAA Tournament for the 2015-20 Cardinals. It comes after  Katina Powell, a self-proclaimed madam, said she organized sex and stripper parties for recruits from 2010 to 2014 in her book "Breaking Cardinal Rules."

But fans wouldn't let that spoil a win on Saturday

“We came out to support the Cards and all that the guys are going through and just wanted to be there to show our loyalty,” one fan said.

“We're all still U of L fans ... nothing has changed with that.”

“It feels like we're all coming together as a family to support the kids, because it’s about the kids,” another Cardinal supporter said.

Some people have strong opinions about the administration’s decision. A banner claiming “Ramsey is a Coward” hung over O’Shea’s on Saturday afternoon. It has since been removed.

“I'm not personally a fan of it,” said one woman outside the KFC Yum! Center. “I think Ramsey made a bad decision, but he's in a tough spot. I'm still coming to games, though, so maybe it will help us next year.”

Others thought the decision could be a good one.

“You'd like to see a postseason, but we don't know everything that’s going on, and you just have to trust the leadership and that it was called the right way,” Reno Likins said.

One thing was for sure on Saturday. Card Nation still stands behind the players on this team.

“They've worked hard. An athlete wants to go to the championship, that’s what you work for.

"But I feel sad for them.”
