LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A high school softball coach has been arrested on a child porn charge, according to Louisville Metro Corrections.

Matthew Graves, who is listed on Kentucky Country Day's website as the head varsity softball coach, has been booked into Metro Corrections and charged with one count of "distribution of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor," an official from Metro Corrections said Monday afternoon.

Parents at the school tell WDRB Graves is also a physical education instructor.

According to an arrest report, Graves sent and received child porn using the mobile app KIK in December 2014. The report states he conversed with another user and exchanged "pictures depicting young children in sexual acts."

Graves also allegedly admitted to detectives that he conversed with and sent pictures to the other user.

According to the officials, this is Graves' first offense.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge Tuesday morning.

Officials at Kentucky Country Day were not immediately available for comment.

Update: In a letter sent to parents late Monday night, KCD's head of school said police had not notified them of the arrest or the investigation. The letter indicated KCD learned of the arrest through news reports, but school officials would cooperate fully with police.

You can read the full letter to parents below:

Dear Parents,

Today, news media reported that KCD coach and teacher Matthew Graves has been arrested for alleged distribution of pornographic material involving a minor. At this time, we have only the information reported in the news media.

This is a serious, disturbing allegation, and we will cooperate fully with law enforcement in their investigation. In the meantime, we have placed Mr. Graves on administrative leave.

We have child safety and protection measures in place and a background check system for all employees. In addition, our network blocks the use of certain applications, including the application allegedly used by the coach on a mobile device.

Our counselors are prepared to meet with any students who want to talk about this issue, and our top priority right now is ensuring that our students feel safe and secure at KCD.

We will not tolerate crimes against minors, and the safety of our students is our paramount concern.

This is an ongoing criminal investigation, and we respect and do not want to interfere with the legal process. As soon as we have more information that we can share, we will do so.

If you have any questions or concerns, my door is always open.
