RAW VIDEO | U of L comeback falls short in 72-65 loss to Duke

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It had been 33 years since the University of Louisville men's basketball team played a game at Duke.

In fact, Rick Pitino had never coached within the quaint surroundings of Cameron Indoor Stadium.

But the Cardinals first trip to Durham as a member of the ACC won't create any good memories for the next trip down Tobacco Road.

U of L lost to unranked Duke, 72-65.

In their throwback black uniforms, the Cardinals came out a little flat, burying themselves in an 11-2 hole in the first five minutes.

Duke took an 11-point lead into the break, but it was quickly erased.

Some smother interior defense sparked a U of L rally. The Cardinals rifled off 13 straight points midway through the second half to temporarily quiet the Cameron Crazies and get back in the game.

The lead waffled back and forth for the rest of the game.

But after a jumper from freshman Raymond Spalding to tie the game at 60 with 3:46 left, the Cardinals went more than three minutes without a made field goal.

Duke slowly pulled away, ultimately winning by seven.

Freshman guard Donovan Mitchell led U of L with 17 points and three rebounds.

Sophomore guard Grayson Allen paced the Blue Devils with 19 points and four rebounds.

The Cardinals (19-5, 8-3), who now fall to third in the ACC standings, get four days off before traveling to South Bend, Ind., to play Notre Dame at 4 p.m. on ESPN2.
