Jeffersontown officers cleared of charges in shooting, video shows drugs may have played a role

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nearly four months after Jeffersontown police shot and killed a robbery suspect, the Commonwealth's attorney says the two officers involved will not be prosecuted.

Video from the frantic scene seems to indicate a drug problem gripping our area was at the center of it.

Just after 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, in the parking lot of the Jimmy Johns on Hurstbourne Parkway, Jeffersontown Police fire three shots at 30-year-old Roger Dale Hall. They say he pulled what turned out to be a BB gun from his waistband.

Other officers converge on the scene. When they reach Hall, he's still alive and officers do what they can to keep him that way.

Hall later died at the hospital.

But the question remains why did Hall did what he did. Police say they found a syringe filled with heroin on him, which could indicate something about his state of mind at the time.

Tuesday, Hall's girlfriend, who says he was addicted and desperate, posted a note to the WDRB Facebook page saying, "I hate that officers and Dale were placed in this situation."

Just before police fire the fatal shots, Hall can be heard yelling "I don't want to live anymore."

Officers Torray Walker and Dwight Tyler have been on administrative leave since the shooting.
