POLICE: Three people shot and killed early Saturday on Wheeler Avenue

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say three people were killed Saturday morning.

MetroSafe says police responded to a report of a triple shooting.

It happened in the 4000 block of Wheeler Avenue, near Hazelwood Avenue, according to a MetroSafe dispatcher.

Officials say a call about the shooting was received Saturday at 3:19 a.m. Investigators say the victims were found dead inside a home.

Police have not said if any of the victims lived at the home.

"You want to know what happened to your loved one," said the sister-in-law of the female victim. "But we know as a family and a unit if we don't let them do their job, we'll never know the truth."

LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley says the victims were two males and one female. Authorities say the three victims were young adults.

The case remains under investigation.

Neighbors says the area usually has a strong police presence.

"You would think you would be safe in a neighborhood where the police are constantly at because that's like a yard or two away," said one neighbor Saturday afternoon.

"The coroner will have to provide the official cause of death. Right now, we do know that they suffered some type of trauma. Again, the call came in as a shooting, but until the coroner can confirm that for us, right now we're just saying they died from unnatural causes," Smiley said.

"Whether or not there were any other people in the house when this incident occurred or whether or not they were just discovered at this location is something we're still trying to figure out. We're going to have to interview the witnesses and start knocking on some doors around here," Smiley added.

"When you lose a family member whether its a child, auntie or whatever there's no saying you're okay with it," said the victim's sister-in-law.

Autopsies are expected to be performed on the bodies Sunday.
