INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (FOX59) – An IMPD officer is in good condition after being shot in the arm early Saturday morning.

The incident began around 3:30 a.m. when officers responded to a call regarding a prowler in the 1100 block of McDougal Street on the south side of Indianapolis.

When officers began walking toward the residence, a man started firing shots at them, and one officer was hit in the forearm, police said.

The suspect then barricaded himself inside the house. The SWAT team was called to the scene, and after a nearly two-hour standoff, the suspect is in police custody.

The injured officer is recovering at Methodist Hospital, according to Captain Richard Riddle with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. The injury is non-life threatening, and the officer is in good condition. Mayor Joe Hogsett has been at the hospital with the officer and the officer’s family.

The names of the officer and the suspect have not been released at this time.
