LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Ben Rhodes still can't believe it.
"It's a dream come true, it’s something that I've dreamed about since I was a little kid," Rhodes said.
That dream is now a reality. After competing last year on a part-time basis, Rhodes is now a full time driver. He switched from Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports to a new team in the offseason.
"ThorSport Racing is kind of the name in the Camping World Truck Series, you know there's Kyle Busch Motorsports, there's Red Horse Racing, there's some other great teams out there but ThorSport Racing has been on the rise the past few years and we haven't seen the peak yet."
Now with a new team and a new opportunity, Rhodes is preparing for first race of the season, and it's a big one, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series opener on Friday at Daytona International Speedway.
"I think the biggest thing to realize from the driver perspective, the team perspective, anybody that's involved on a team going to Daytona, you have to realize that pretty much everything is out of your control. I think at Daytona you have to take one step at a time and realize that stuff happens and you just got to be prepared for it," Rhodes said.
Confident and excited, Rhodes has a positive mindset heading into next week.
"Going into the race, I know that if I just do my best, forget the rest, it will just take care of itself," Rhodes said.
That seems like a good philosophy for the 18-year-old driver who believes the sky’s the limit.
